In place of our normal Friday Freakout, today I present a few questions, you should ponder, as you read this.
What if, our government or elements within our government used the unfortunate incident concerning Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman, as an excuse to inflame inter-race relations?
What if, those same elements used the Department of Justice to organize and oversee demonstrations in Florida to press for an arrest, even before an official investigation had been completed?
What if, the sheriff in the jurisdiction where the above mentioned incident occurred was fired for not arresting George Zimmerman, without so much as an accusation of misconduct?
What if, the media, manipulated the transcripts of the call George Zimmerman made to the emergency services, that took Mr. Zimmerman’s words out of context, in order to make Mr. Zimmerman look racist?
What if, a highly ranked and admired politician, stated that “if I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon”, before any investigation had been complete?
Have you contemplated those questions?
Now, ask yourself one more question.
Why did you even have to contemplate them?
Should not our government (you know the one, the one WE formed with the words “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”) ensure that Justice is served? Tainting the jury pool, public opinion, and the entire justice system does not serve justice, EVER.
I do not know if George Zimmerman should be convicted of a crime, but I do know, that justice has NOT been served in his case. The New Black Panther Party put a price on his head, yet did the DoJ investigate? no. What about the case of Antonio Santiago, no public outrage, no mass media exposure/exploitation, no politico leach claiming that baby Antonio would look like their child. What about the case of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom? Have you even heard of it? Justice is the equal application of the law, and while I realize the media is under no obligation to uphold any principles whatsoever, the government is under certain obligations.
So I for one, am for Justice in the Martin/Zimmerman case, I call for a full public investigation of all aspects of this horrendous incident, including the DoJ to see if Zimmerman’s civil rights were violated, to see if Zimmerman was justified in his claim to self-defense, as well as any and all other aspects of this case. Justice must be served, lest we become a country of lawlessness or at least in a country where some being more equal than others.
