academic debate

Expanded intervention in Syria’s civil war? The promised “red line” punitive strike? An equivocal pause for congressional rumination? Ambiguous postponement? Or… a “Saturday Night Live” Emily Litella “never mind” skit on the world stage — farcical incompetence an obscene response to obscene tragedy?

Could it be that even President Obama’s ‘allies’ question his motives and loyalties?  Or perhaps that they see America as in a self-induced decline.

Making the (very large) assumption that Assad ordered/allowed chemical weapons to be used, one has to question “What exactly would a ‘limited strike’ accomplish?

If we launch a limited strike and fail to deliver a major disruptive blow to the Assad regime, what is left to fear (for them)?  It might occur to them, that using chemical weapons to crush the rebellion would be in their long-term best interest.

To say nothing, of whomever the Assad regime will ultimately blame to unite the country against ‘evil’ America.

Could the President be signing the death warrants of thousands of people, in order to save face?

But the President has painted America into a corner,

if we don’t strike;  we look weak,

if we use have a limited strike;  we look (just) kind of weak,

if we go full on ape shit; we look like the bully (especially if Russian [and German] intelligence proves to be correct, and US intelligence is wrong, e.g. the Tsarnaev brothers)

Just some food for thought.

Sunday Contemplation (1 Sep 13)

Sunday Contemplation

Sunday Contemplation

For today’s Sunday Contemplation, I want to cover a couple of things, if I may…

First as I was reading up on the novel “The Bluest Eye”, I read a term I had not heard of before, now I can’t say I’m an expert on stupidity or racism, but I have never heard the term ‘High Yellow’ before.  In case you don’t know what it means, it is an archaic term meaning a person of African descent who has a high proportion of European ancestry.  If that is confusing, well, I really don’t know what to tell you, because I’m confused too.  So there is a new term, I personally doubt if that term, High Yellow, has any use, but there it is, odd as it seems to me.  Anyway there is some sort of hullabaloo about the novel “The Bluest Eye“, by Toni Morrison (who seems to have an unhealthy fetish with incest, Just Saying, check out her other novels and you will know what I mean, while Ms. Morrison is no doubt entertaining and talented I am dubious of the value her works have in regards to teaching young adults.)

For some reason I feel the strong urge to scrub, anyway, allow me to continue….

Charles David Endiger wrote an article over on The Rio Norte Line, if you don’t know The Rio Norte Line, you need to head over there and familiarize yourself with the good guys and gals.  Some of the best writers on the internet hang out there.  Mr. Endiger seems to be a decent chap with some damn good information to share, and he doesn’t seem to harbor some of the intellectual flaws that most academics have, so check out his work, hopefully he will share more of his vast experiences with us, so we can all have some more insight to the demented world of academia. (no offense, bro)

For those of you who are religious, I feel I must apologize for some of my recent posts that have been less than respectful of religion.  If I have insulted you, I am sorry, I meant no disrespect.  for the most part I was trying to make a point, and sometimes I am less than nice.  If you fall in the category of feeling disrespected, I apologize, IF and WHEN I want to dog on you, YOU will know, because tact is totally NOT a strong point of mine, so if you are inadvertently insulted please accept my apologizes, as I did not mean to make you think I was insulting you, when I insult someone there will be NO DOUBT that I insulted you.  Just so you know.

As far as actually contemplating….I am not sure that the current situation is sustainable…I dare not suggest that a revolution is in order, as I dread the results, although I am not sure that the status-quo is sustainable.  I levy my hope with new politicians such as Ted Cruz, although I am dubious of his ability to fight through the tangled mess that is Washington D.C.  One must cling to what hope one has…

A Theory I’m Kicking Around (26 Jul 13)

I’ve been kicking around a theory for a bit…so it is a bit raw, but please bear with me.

Now while I am no historian, I do love history, especially the actions and thoughts of people both famous and not-so-famous.  [One of my favs:  About an Italian Forced Laborer in Nazi Germany].

So here is my theory, what if all the people who we have heard about in history that have committed atrocities all have a link, one thing that connects them?  I think that there might be more than one…what is one link, well obviously, they are filled with hatred, but what if there is more…what if they all are in their heart of hearts…statists?  What do I mean?  Well, let’s look at some history…

Heinrich Kramer (and allegedly Jakob Sprenger), author(s) of the infamous Malleus Maleficarum (aka Hammer of the Witches), a misogynist, statist, book filled with falsehoods, misinterpretations, and a good spattering of silliness, such as penis stealing.

Socialism/Communism, (yes I know Marxists like to say there is a difference but to the peasants/kulaks, and basically anyone is not a apparatchik or high government official, they are the same).  Do I really need to document the literally millions of people who were killed outright, by starvation or being worked to death, allowed to die due to lack of medical treatment and other methods, because they were deemed ‘undesirables‘?

I would even go so far as to postulate that there is not now and never has been any socialist/communist governments.  The governments that claim that are nothing more than statist dictatorships, irrelevant of their supposed left or right leanings.  The whole left/right thing is more of an academic debate, then a ‘ground truth’, as far as I am concerned, and no doubt if the millions who have died (due to government dictate) could speak, they would agree.

But I digress, if all of these people all hate freedom, i.e. freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, Freedom of peaceful assembly, you know all those freedoms that are guaranteed in the Bill of Rights.  Are they not more similar than different, when it comes to John Q. Public types, like us?  So perhaps instead of getting into a pointless academic debate over the differences between communism, socialism, Nazi’s, Islamic fundamentalists, racists, and any other Freedom hating groups of people, perhaps we could just group them all together and call it day, and then get on with marginalizing them and their lies and propaganda.

[I was going to add some pictures of the atrocities but I felt that was not only unnecessary but too graphic for some of our younger readers, if you wish to see evidence of these crimes, please bing/google Gulag or Concentration Camp]
